"A Sunday Afternoon in Charlotte" was a budgeted project proposed, organized, and installed by Emily Little for display at the 6th annual BOOM Festival which took place April 21-23, 2023 at Camp North End in Charlotte. Each of 22 participating artists were assigned 1 to 2 sections of 36 squares of a grid overlaying the famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat and painted their assigned squares on their provided 20"x12" canvas, in their own artistic style. Each of the squares were then grommeted and chained together as one giant 10’ x 6’ original recreation of Seurat's work, reflecting the unique styles of each contributing artist, and hung off a shipping container structure for display for Charlotte's 6th annual BOOM Festival. Little received a HUG micro-grant from local nonprofit Charlotte Is Creative in January 2024 to have "A Sunday Afternoon In Charlotte" professionally sewn together to replace the grommets and chains, making it more easily transported, installed, and to help it find its permanent home.
